FIVE-STAR AURORAS DOWN POWERLINES

FIVE-STAR AURORAS DOWN POWERLINES

Auroras Football Club produced one of their best away performance of the season, shellacking Accra Powerlines FC 0-5 at the Kotobabi Park on Wednesday.

Goals from Ahmed Tijani, Philip Heymann, substitute Daniel Quansah, and a brace from Rodney Arthur helped Auroras to the emphatic away victory.

Coach Seth Hoffmann’s side had slipped to second on the league log but they were in their elements in midweek to keep the pressure on the table-toppers.

Tijani got Auroras off to a flying-start netting the opener in the 7th minute with an audacious strike. The bulky striker allowed a sweet pass from Mitchel Sarpong to roll in front of him on an Auroras break, but that did not stop him from lobbing the keeper from 35 yards away from goal.

Powerlines’ goalie, who started backtracking when Tijani released his shot, should have fisted the ball out but he fluffed his line to gift the opener.

The hosts held their own and denied Auroras of their second goal but their resistance was once again broken just on the stroke of halftime. Mitchel was at the heart of it again but though the Powerlines goalie fisted his goal bound effort out, striker Heymann quickly followed through to stab the rebound home.

After the break, Auroras picked up from where they left off with midfielder Rodney stamping his authority in midfield and stealing the show. The enterprising midfielder extended Auroras’ lead in the 59th minute following a flowing team move. He got his brace with two minutes remaining to cap off a fine individual performance.

Substitute Daniel Quansah put the final nail in Powerlines coffin as Auroras ran serious rout at the Kotobabi Park.

………. AURORAS TO HOST RISING STARS ON FRIDAY

The young Phobians will be hoping to continue their fine run when they host Rising Stars on Friday at the Tesano Police Depot Park.

Coach Hoffmann’s side have picked up 31 points, and are two points off first place, but they have their eyes firmly fixed on re-taking their position atop the Division 2B league.

The free-scoring Auroras will welcome leading scorer Manaf Gumah Jr. back into the team and they will be going all out to beat Rising Stars on Friday.
